A reader asks " This my granpa riding an Excelsior back in the 20's (I think). I would like to know the model and the year of that motorcycle. Thank You
Quebec City"

Occhio Lungo: It is a 1916 Excelsior. In 1915 they had the shifter on the right hand side, and the clutch cover was open. 1916 had the left shifter and closed clutch cover (and a dozen other little differences). By 1917, the dove grey paint was replaced by army green/grey. Excelsior and Henderson were different companies, but both were owned by Ignatz Schwinn. Henderson made 4 cylinder bikes, X made V twins.
