
Enormous Morning Glory Cloud near Groote Eylandt

Awesome is a much abused term, but there are few others to adequately describe this magnificent system. This photo is taken south of Groote Eylandt at around 6000 feet. We were soaring at a steady 80 or 90 knots - a very respectable speed in a G109 - and decided to have a peek over the top to see if we could see Groote. We couldn't. There was secondary going to well over 10 thousand feet behind it. Note the lenticulars. |
