Merry Christmas, Teletubbies!
by Bonnie Bader
Hardcover from Scholastic Paperbacks
ISBN: 043910596XThis hardcover, large-format picture book is filled with bright illustrations that will delight very young children. Join in the festive spirit with the four Teletubbies as they open their presents and celebrate a magical Christmas!
Like all good Anglicans, the Teletubbies aren't letting Christmas go unobserved. One day in the strange and wonderfully surreal place that is Teletubbyland, a beautiful Christmas tree pops into existence. And then--"Ping! Ping! Ping! Ping!"--four gifts magically appear on the tree. Hmmm... four presents, four Teletubbies--why, there must be one for Tinky Winky, one for Dipsy, one for Laa-Laa, and one for Po. Sure enough, the Tubbies shake each of their color-coordinated boxes with a "jingle, jangle" before opening them to see what they've received. Needless to say, trademark Tele-hilarity ensues. Big, glossy illustrations (meticulously faithful to the popular BBC series) accompany text adapted from the original TV scripts by Andrew Davenport. Bye-bye. (Baby to preschool) --Paul Hughes

Boom Boom Dance (Teletubbies)
by Scholastic
Board book from Scholastic Paperbacks
ISBN: 0439138531Over the hills and far away, the Teletubbies could dance all day! They love to shake and sway to the Boom Boom Dance. Kids can dance along as they read this adorable board book, and they can guess where the Teletubbies are as they peek through the die-cuts in each page.
"One day in Teletubbyland, Tinky Winky danced a special boom-boom dance. Tinky Winky boom-boom dance!" Dipsy dances the boom-boom dance, too, as does Laa-Laa, Po, and the Noo-noo. Everyone loves dancing the special boom-boom dance. With their trademark inane dialogue and silly antics that appeal so wildly to the 2-and-under set, the Teletubbies dance the day away in this "peekaboo" board book. Windows allow a glimpse at the upcoming cavorting characters so toddlers can have fun guessing who's next. Based on the Teletubbies TV show, these simple, colorful stories feature four odd yet kind of cute animated characters with TV screens in their bellies, dancing, singing, and gently adventuring. Enjoy more Teletubby frolics in their many other books, including The Magic Telescope and Here Come the Teletubbies. (Baby to preschool) --Emilie Coulter
The Magic Telescope (Teletubbies)
by Scholastic Books, Emilie Kong
Board book from Scholastic
ISBN: 0590983350Dipsy looks through the telescope to see soft furry rabbits, Po's tutu, Tinky Winky's vinyl bag, and other things babies can really touch!
One day in Teletubbyland, a telescope appears on one of the surrealistically green hills many of us have come to recognize. Dipsy, wearing a tangibly furry, black-and-white spotted top hat, looks through the telescope and sees rabbits sniffing flowers, Tinky Winky with a red vinyl bag, Po wearing a tutu-like skirt, and Laa-Laa playing with her orange rubbery ball. Then, as in all Teletubby encounters, it's time to say "bye-bye." If your children light up when they see Teletubbies on television, they may enjoy seeing them frolic in the pages of this oversized board book as well. And, since kids can't actually touch the television screen with any satisfying results, they may like the novelty of being able to touch objects such as the textured gauzy skirt, vinyl bag, and rubbery ball. If titles like this help children make a transition from television to books, so much the better. By any other measure, however, The Magic Telescope is less than magical. (Baby to preschool)
