Miniature
Horses: A Veterinary Guide for Owners and Breeders
by Steven Duren, et al
Through years of selective breeding, Miniature horses - standing no
more than 34 inches tall - have developed into true scaled-down versions
of full-sized horses. However, despite their similarity in appearance to
their larger relatives, with respect to veterinary care, Miniatures cannot
be viewed simply as smaller versions of full-sized horses. The occurrence,
diagnosis, and treatment of many equine diseases is affected by their small
size and unique physiological and metabolic demands. This practical, well-researched
manual provides Miniature horse owners and veterinarians with the information
needed for safe and appropriate treatment. It goes a long way in preventing
the devastating mistakes that have, in the past, had undesirable consequences
for these little horses. Dr. Frankeny is a veterinarian who specializes
in Miniature horses. She lives in Nevada. An Equestrian Edge Book Club
Selection. The Publisher

Success
with Miniature Horses: The Experts Speak Out
by Pat Elder
Pat Elder got her first Miniature Horse in 1992 and fell in love with
the breed. Soon, she had switched from training Quarter Horses and Paints,
which she had done since she was 16, to training Miniatures in halter,
driving, and other performance events. Early in 2007, she and two good
friends started Rosa Roca Training Stables just east of Oklahoma City.
There, she and her assistant trainer Katherine Velkovich employ gentle,
natural training techniques to bring out the best in their own horses and
those of their clients. They have since earned Regional Championships and
multiple National Top Tens in Halter, Liberty, and several driving events.
But Pat firmly believes that there is always more to learn, and that
if you ask the right questions, there's no limit to the amount of knowledge
you'll gain. This book is the result of that constant quest for information.
