by Samuel King Hamilton
Book Description: David Hamilton, a Scottish prisoner who was transported to Charlestown, MA in 1651, soon settled in Dover, NH. His ancestry and descendants are detailed here, with emphasis on five Hamilton brothers, great-grandsons of David, who moved from Berwick, ME to Waterboro, ME in the 18th century. The standard Register format is used and documentation, particularly for the 17th and 18th centuries, is good. Because of the extensive records of Waterboro, ME which Mr. Hamilton included in his book, and the loss of much of Waterboro's records in major fires in 1911 and 1947, his book is often the only source for the existence, location, and description of early landmarks. Excellent for Hamilton descendants and students of the towns of Dover and Rollinsford, NH and the Maine towns of Waterboro, Saco, Berwick and South Berwick.HINCKLEYS of Maine. by Andrew J. Wahll.
Book Description - In 1607, the Virginia Company of London sent two colonizing expeditions to North America. London financiers bankrolled the first settlement at Jamestown, on the mouth of the James River (in present-day Virginia). The second expedition was sent out from the English port of Plymouth, establishing the Popham Colony in "northern Virginia," now New England. Popham Colony was planted at the mouth of the Kennebec River in Maine, centered around the newly constructed Fort St. George. This region was also known as "Sabino," "Norumbega" and "Mawooshin."This book is a chronological collection of written records pertaining to the Popham Colony. These fascinating records begin with narratives of the early voyages of discovery in 1602. Included are journal entries, letters and extracts from the writings of Champlain, Gorges, John Smith, and the Jesuit Relations, to name a few. Later historical works from the 19th and 20th centuries are also included.,., illus., maps, paper, #W1581

Special OrderSoldiers and Sailors of the Plantation of Lower St. Georges, Maine : Who Served in the War for American Independence
by Frank Burton Miller
Book Description: At the time of the American Revolution, the Province of Maine was still part of Massachusetts, and the future towns of Cushing and St. George were confined within the so-called Plantation of Lower St. Georges. While Maine was not yet prepared to take its place as the twenty-third state of the Union in 1776, the residents of Lower St. Georges were more than ready to fight for the cause of American independence. This fact is attested to in this diminutive volume, which is comprised of an alphabetically arranged series of essays of the roughly 100 soldiers and sailors from Cushing and St. George who fought on the Patriot side of the conflict. Compiled by Judge Miller to assist researchers hoping to qualify for membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution and kindred lineage organizations, the contents range from brief sketches to extensive biographical pedigrees of the combatants. What follows is a complete list of surnames of Lower St. Georges men about whom the compiler has gathered information: Adams, Allen, Annis, Barter, Brazier, Brison, Brown, Burton, Clark, Coombs, Crocker, Davis, Dyer, Falley, Foster, Gardner, Gay, Gilchrest, Graffam, Grant, Hall, Handley, Hart, Hathorn, Hawes, Henderson, Hilt, Hinds, Howard, Hutchins, Hyler, Jameson, Johnson, Kelloch, Killeran, Lamb, Lewis, Long, Madden, Madding, Malcomb, Marshall, Martin, McCobb, McIntyre, McLellan, Norton, Nutting, Packard, Page, Payson, Rawley, Rivers, Robinson, Roundy, Seavey, Smith, Sterling, Stone, Stover, Sweetland, Thorndike, Vickery, Vose, Wall, Watts, Wells, Wiley, Willis, and Young.Swanville Maine Vital Records Prior to the Year 1892
